I am
ending my list of Uninvited Disciplines, although I suspicion each of us have
many more. While I do not negate the spiritual
disciplines of the ancients because they have so much to teach us about finding
our center, find our connection to God, I also don’t want to limit God’s
opportunity to reach me in the every day activities, too. I don’t want my day to devolve into a to-do
list or skill-building which does not include a conscious effort to seek God in
each. Let the monkish practices of
silence, study, prayer, service, or solitude invade daily life, for they are
the tools by which our whole life can be God’s and can be centered on God.
